Newington firm spins off generator division
Friday, June 1, 2012
The Newington Electric Co. launched a new firm dedicated to selling and installing generators at all times of the day, even though the company is having a hard time finding workers.
The launch of Connecticut Home Generator Systems created 12 positions that the company has been trying to fill. Finding qualified people has been difficult to step into positions such as managerial, sales, electricians and repair technicians.
"We want to get the word out that there is opportunity here in CT," said Ed Ingalls, owner of Newington Electric Company, in a press release. "In order to turn the tide of unemployment, it takes growth, one company at a time."
The main business Newington Electric Co. is offering electricians for various residential, commercial and industrial jobs; but the company has sold generators for the past 20 years, becoming one of the largest Generac dealers in Connecticut.
The company decided to spin off Connecticut Home Generator Systems following the Oct. 28 snowstorm, when Newington Electric received more than 4,500 phone calls from residents looking for a generator.
Connecticut Home Generator Systems' main focus will be installing and servicing residential stand-by generator systems, educating customers on the different generators available to them.
For the expected increase in demand for the new company, Newington Electric expanded its facility on 16 Progress Circle by 2,000 sq. ft.
